EA E3 2018: ¿qué podemos esperar?

Un breve resumen de todo lo que nos ha mostrado EA en su conferencia de 2018.

Electronic Arts ha dado el pistoletazo de salida a las conferencias con información “jugosa” sobre múltiples juegos y tenía que empezar con su gran estrella, FIFA 19. No sólo eso, también mostraron algunas características interesantes como la adición de la Copa del Mundo de Rusia en el juego del año pasado: FIFA 18. Cualquier persona interesada en probar el juego tiene la posibilidad de hacerlo de manera gratuita durante este fin de semana. Confirmaron también que Fifa 19 estará disponible, como siempre, en tres versiones distintas, pero en pocos meses, más específicamente el 28 de septiembre de 2018.

También han mencionado algunos datos nuevos sobre cómo funcionará su nuevo servicio, “Origin Access”. Podemos utilizar y testear esta suscripción de forma gratuita también durante este fin de semana. Algunos de los juegos que estarán disponibles en la plataforma serán Fifa 19, Madden 19 y por supuesto Anthem. Aunque estos juegos no estarán disponibles, obviamente, para probar el servicio este fin de semana. Podremos disfrutar, no obstante, de otros juegos de EA como por ejemplo Limbo.

No hay una conferencia de EA sin hablar de la Guerra de las Galaxias. En este caso hemos recibido información de dos juegos diferentes: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order y Star Wars: Battlefront II, el juego de EA que causó más problemas que ninguna otra cosa el año pasado.

Hablando de Jedi Fallen Order no hemos oído mucho, sólo que es un juego que se va a colocar en el momento histórico en que los Jedi fueron perseguidos por el lado oscuro, algo entre la tercera y la cuarta película y que estará disponible para la temporada navideña de 2019.

En el caso de Star Wars: Battlefront II, después de un millón de disculpas hacia el jugador, han dicho que mientras todavía están arreglando el juego, van a traer una nueva idea con la película de Han Solo y también algo que los “fans” han estado pidiendo a gritos: Clone Wars, con personajes como el General Grievous y el Conde Dark Lord Dooku del lado oscuro y Anakin Skywalker y Obi Wan Kenobi en el lado de la fuerza.

Después de traernos esa información, ha sucedido algo bastante inesperado. Unravel 2 entró en escena. No sólo fue una experiencia nueva y vibrante, sino que va a ser un juego cooperativo. Me recuerda mucho a Trine 2, más que nada en la forma en que tenemos que jugarlo. Pero el juego en sí no fue la gran sorpresa, si no que ya podemos disfrutarlo, sin esperas, por sólo 20 euros tanto en Xbox One, PS4 y PC.

Tras Unravel 2, un indie ha llegado a EA Originals. Un juego alemán llamado Sea of Solitudes o como ellos lo llaman, S.O.S. La idea es que el mundo ha transformado a los humanos en monstruos. Estaremos en la monstruosa piel de Kay, una mujer que ha perdido su identidad. Se ve bastante bien y este título puede ser una gran adición a esos juegos independientes que a EA tanto le gusta darnos.

Luego, continuando con la zona deportiva, EA ha mostrado nueva información sobre Madden 19 que también estará en PC, tras muchos años en la oscuridad y por supuesto el NBA 19. Esas franquicias no están olvidadas para los “hardcore sport gamers”, pero no sé si serán relevantes para el público en general.

EA también tiene algo para los jugadores de dispositivos móviles con una franquicia que ha sido “sacada de los infiernos”: Command and Conquer: Rivals. Este juego de estrategia está de vuelta después de un tiempo y parece que va a proporcionar buenas partidas de uno contra uno, donde la estrategia se simplificará bastante. El objetivo seguirá siendo el mismo: derrotar al otro jugador, pero utilizando algunos esquemas muy básicos. Este juego también está disponible hoy, como Unravel 2, pero en este caso para iOS y Android.

Lo último que nos enseñaron fue, obviamente, Anthem. Un juego que lo está desarrollando BioWare una empresa que ha dado grandes títulos como Mass Effect o Dragon Age. Es un juego que va a proporcionar buenas horas diversión a todos los fanáticos de la exploración y de los tiros más frenéticos. Visualmente se ve impresionante y el juego parece sólido, pero tendremos que esperar para verlo en vivo y en directo. Será un poco antes de lo que pensábamos originalmente, ya que este juego se lanzará oficialmente el 22 de febrero de 2019 para PS4, Xbox One y PC.

EA E3 conference: What to expect

What to expect from E3 after this conference?

Electronic Arts has started the conferences with some “juicy” information about FIFA 19. Not only that, they also showed some nice features as the addition of the World Cup in the FIFA 18 game. Anyone interested in trying the game has the possibility of playing it for free during this weekend. They confirmed that Fifa 19 will be available as always in three different versions but in a few months, more specifically the 28th of September of 2018.

Also, they have mentioned some new data about how will work their new service, Origin Access. We can use and check this subscription for free during this weekend. Some of the games that will be available in the platform are Fifa 19, Madden 19 and of course Anthem. Although these games will not be available just know,  obvously, we will be able to enjoy other EA games like for example Limbo.

There is not an EA conference without talking about Star Wars. In this case we have received information from two different games: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars: Battlefront II, the EA game that caused more trouble than anything.

Talking about Jedi Fallen Order we haven’t heard much, just that it is a game that is going to be placed in a moment when the Jedi’s were chased by the dark side, something between the third and the fourth movie and that it will be available for the holiday season of 2019.

In the case of Star Wars Battlefront II, after a million apologies they have said that while they are still fixing the game, they are going to bring a new idea with the Han Solo movie and also something that the fans have been asking forever: Clone Wars, bringing into the spotlight characters like General Grievous and the Dark Lord Count Dooku from the dark side and Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.

After bringing that info, something unexpected happened. Unravel 2 entered in scene. Not only it was a vibrant new experience, but it is going to be a cooperative game. It kind of reminds me of Trine 2, the way we have to play it. But the game itself was not the big surprise, we can already enjoy the game right now, no waiting for it. You can enjoy it for just 20 euros on your PS4’s Xbox One’s and PCs.

After that good piece of information an indie has arrived to EA Originals. A German game called Sea of Solitude or like they call it, S.O.S. The idea is that the world has transformed the humans into monsters. We will be in the monstrous skin of Kay, a woman who has lost her identity. It looks pretty nice and this may be a great addition to those indie games that EA likes to give us frequently.

Then continuing with sports, EA has shown some new information about Madden 19 that will be in PC as well, and of course NBA 19. Those franchises are not forgotten for the “hardcore sports gamers”, but I don’t know how relevant they will be to the public eye.

EA has also something for mobile gamers with a franchise that has been “reworked”: Command and Conquer: rivals. This strategy game is back after a while and seems to provide good one vs one gameplays, where strategy will be simplified a bit. The objective will still be the same: defeat the other player but using some very basics schemes. This game is also available today, like Unravel 2 but in this case in iOS and Android.

The last thing that they showed us was obviously Anthem. A game that is being done with BioWare a company that has given great titles like the Mass Effect Franchise or Dragon Age. It is a game that is going to provide good fun to all shooting-exploring fanatics. Visually looks stunning and the gameplay seems solid, but we will have to see the reality and it is going to be a bit sooner than we originally thought, as this game will officially be launched the 22nd of February of 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Today starts one of the most intense days for any videogames fan, the E3 Expo. For celebrating this year’s conference, we are going to do a special follow up with everything that is about to happen. We will do live streams, podcast, news and we are going to try to cover it all and have a lot of fun. Hope to see you all there.

New minion farming record in League of Legends

During the last week there was an impressive League of Legends match that lasted more than 94 minutes. Yes, you have read it right. I can’t imagine how hard could it be to play for more than 94 minutes with all the tension, the team fights and the risks for getting the glory of being the winner.

This has happened in the Korean League. Two teams, SK Telecom T1 and Jin Air Green Wings have delivered one of the best matches ever. They did a world record with the longest official match ever played with 94 minutes but also one of the competitors, Teddy, scored an impressive record of minions killed with an amount 1465. I guess that Sivir had a great night.

It will be a match that hardly will be surpassed, at least in the near future, but what we really know is that Faker won’t be happy as he was defeated in the worst moment so his team, SK Telecom T1, lost against Jin Air Green Wings in an unforgetable match. League of Legends is still alive and apparently will continue delivering in this new season.

New Season in League of Legends

After some months of pre-season, last tuesday was the beginning of the new season of League of Legends. The super popular game developed by Riot Games, inspired by some ideas by Warcraft, is going to start its 8th season.

Lots of improvements are in this new season and also a lot of new ways to make our champions legendary.

Personally speaking, as a speedrunner, I haven’t spent too many hours playing this game but I have a clar goal for this 2018. I’m going to reach gold in ranked mode. For this I’m going to use two different accounts (One in english and one in Spanish) and I’m going to try really hard to accomplish that goal. Another challenge to place on the list.

Indeed the last tuesday, with the beginning of the new season, I made the first video with a level 1 account. The starts are always hard but I hope it will be interesting for you guys to watch. See you soon.

Super Mario 64 DS (DSaster) [ENG/SPA]

Well here comes the first DSaster game. It was recorded not long ago. It was a super fun game and, luckily, it didn’t take too long to finish it. Here comes the videos and soon will come the review. Super Mario 64 DS tendrá su correspondiente review en su momento en la sección de análisis, pero quiero empezar con todas las secciones de la web y este es el mejor momento para hacerlo. Review: Super Mario Bros. 1 (Nintendo NES)

Analyzing Super Mario Bros involves talking about the history of video games. I still remember when I was a little “lemming” arriving home, the day of my holy communion, and finding above my bed a big box with the Nintendo Entertainment System and a game clumsily wrapped in crumpled paper, already opened by my older brothers, who sneaked for it days before my family gave away the present.

A historic leap

Great sensations I felt while I took off the gray cartridge from its box, introducing it on the machine and grabbing the gamepad with the D-pad and its A and B red buttons for the first time. When I saw on screen: “1 Player Press start” and I began the game it was something that has been marked in my memory and in my retina.

This work created by Shigeru Miyamoto in 1985 was a before and after in the world of videogames and a revolution for home electronic entertainment. The very idea of a hero who is dedicated to advance in lateral displacement, running from left to right, it was a surprise to the company located in Japan and to the creator of the game. The impact it had led Mario to be named the company’s official mascot and an icon in the industry. But before analyzing the peculiarities of this title, a tiny bit of history.

Who are you and why that moustache?

With this title, the video game industry experienced a reorganization that prompted them to new heights never achieved before; helping the industry out of a crisis that was submerged from the great failure of the first generation (Atari and other systems as the Coleco did not reach the expected impact). This game tell us the journey of two plumbers to save the princess of Mushroom Kingdom, Peach, who has been kidnapped by the evil King of the Koopas, Bowser. Through eight very different worlds the players have to overcome all kinds of obstacles, enemies and jumps. At first it seems simple but the wisdom and skill of the player will be the key to solve the ballot so they can rescue the poor princess from the evil clutches of his oppressor.

We should not forget that this game was released in 1985, so our graphic standards should focus on the software which was present in those moments. With very colorful sprites, Mario shows his clothing, his moustache and his characteristic red cap neatly. Despite being worlds fairly flat, with little details, the ending game is just right and perfectly fulfills the requirements for the first platform title in the genre. It was quite an innovation finding so many levels with that variety of enemies as atypical and distinct as green and brown turtles or goombas, which were easily crushed by our hero.

Nor can we leave out the aquatic stages and of course the final levels of each world in which we must defeat the evil henchman shift guarding his castle, full of chasms, spikes, walls of fire and lava pits. Everything to get to the final runway where we have to measure ourselves against evil bosses, aided only by our skill and various elements like fire flowers or mushrooms that will provide us some extra help.

Unforgettable soundtrack and gameplay

In the screen title there is not a sound, but pressing the start button will lead us to a melody that each and every one of us has heard at one time or another in our lives. These notes composed by Koji Kondo will be part of history. There are different harmonies for each level, depending on whether we are underwater, on the surface, in a cave or in a castle. Although the tunes are repeated, they are not monotonous and with the sound effects it makes the whole piece a memorable soundtrack very well composed.

If anything can be talked at length, it’s about the gameplay of this Triple A. The first platform game and first one to use, as we have already mentioned above, lateral displacement. A huge innovation. The D-pad and the two action buttons achieve the expected effect in an almost perfect way. The sensitivity of the buttons by pressing the jump button and the D-pad directions are very well adjusted; depending on how hard we press A or B we will reach a power or another.

Inside the game we will have, in the beginning, five lives that can be increased if we are lucky enough to find a green mushroom, which will give us an extra life, exactly the same as if we collect 100 coins in the game. Throughout the screens we will be getting points for defeating our enemies. If we make a combo of more than eight strokes, eliminating eight enemies in a single bound with for example a single shell, it will also give us an extra life. It will also add points to wreck scene elements, such as empty blocks or question blocks. Inside of these we may find coins or items that will help us in our journey, like for example mushrooms or fire flowers that will give us more strength or even stars that will make us invulnerable for a short period of time.

In the final part of each stage, as a goal, we will find some flags to hoist jumping from afar. The higher we get the higher score we will achieve and if we are skilled and we jump in a precise second, we might even be rewarded with fireworks to celebrate our arrival.

This game maybe is a bit linear and that’s why we may not find a great reason to replay it, except for the sheer fun it offers. Once you save the princess the main goal is over. You can try to have fun ending it with more lives, or in less time (there are records in the web in which it appears that this game can get solved in less than five minutes) or achieving a higher score, but the end will remain the same. Yes, the most persistent will be rewarded with the chance of playing again the game in a more difficult level (hard mode), with stronger enemies and more complex levels.

Super Mario Bros is very famous for a reason. This is the first title in a long line of episodes and imitations: a pioneer in the world of video games. Like good wine, it improves with age and continues to offer its best image. Today with the new versions of this title, with a substantial graphical improvement, makes this game highly recommended for spending an afternoon in an entertaining and enjoyable place. The tight difficulty curve makes the challenge not too monotonous. A game that despite being unable to save our progress during the game (in the original version we can’t, but we do in the later versions) it is not frustrating. Starting from scratch has the incentive to keep us improving and moving forward. If you are tired of ultra defined graphics and you just intend to bring a few hours to a classic game that is fun and challenging at the same time, do not hesitate and try this wonder created by Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto.
